We speak with Russell Keith - owner of The Grey Eagle Music Hall and The Grey Eagle Taqueria. We talk about the plight of independent music venues and how they have to wait right now, deal with lost revenue that won't be recouped for some time and try to find creative ways to keep income coming in. We speak about the importance of music venues and everyone involved in them and how that loss to our cultural lexicon is being felt. We establish the cost associated with owning a venue and all of the people who are affected by this long term closure. Russ describes what they are doing to be safe and how, even amidst uncertainty, they are planning to have shows at smaller capacities once they are able to do so. He discusses the streaming of shows he has been doing and how , while not economically viable for the venue or the artists, did create more opportunities as to how to deliver music to more people. Russ is hopeful and he reminds all of us that we have to band together to save independent music venues and the artists who work there and all of the employees who make those shows happen.
